Halloween Rice Krispie Treats (with a Secret Oreo Twist)

I’ve made these for years, and I’ve picked up a few pro tips along the way. The not-so-secret ingredient: Halloween Oreos. They taste just like regular Oreos but have an orange cream center that takes these from really good to actually festive. I had to hit Target to find them — I linked them in my Amazon shop if you can’t find them locally.

Two things I do differently

I leave the Oreos chunky. Put them in a gallon zip-lock and mash with a mallet, rolling pin, or wine bottle — but stop early. I like bigger pieces so you can actually see the black and orange in the treats.

I keep my fingers greased. The real secret to not losing your mind pressing sticky Rice Krispies into the pan: keep butter on your fingers, or lay parchment on top and press down through that.

That’s basically it. Mash the Oreos, melt the butter and marshmallows, stir in the cereal and Oreos, then press into a buttered 9×13 pan. Full measurements are in the recipe card below.

Making it allergy-friendly? Swap the butter for coconut oil to go dairy-free, and skip the Pam spray (use buttered/parchment hands instead) to keep it soy-free.

Serving them

I cut mine into squares, but you could use festive cookie cutters or put them on sticks like they do at The Yard House. These are the perfect dessert alongside our traditional Halloween dinner of Vollmer Chili.

And I have to say — the second that marshmallow hits the cereal and it literally snaps, crackles, and pops, I turn into an 8-year-old again. Something about that sound is pure nostalgia for me.
