Halloween Rice Krispie Treats Everyone Will Love

This post has been updated with some pro tips I’ve learned after making these for a few years.

If you’re wondering how to make Halloween Rice Krispie Treats, look no further! This recipe will show you how to make regular Rice Krispie treats and how to dress them up with a spooky twist. And guess what? We’ll even reveal why Halloween Oreos taste better in these tasty treats.

To start, gather all your ingredients: marshmallows, butter, Rice Krispies cereal, and Halloween Oreos. The orange Rice Krispie treats are going to be a hit at your Halloween party, so let’s get started.

If you want to make this allergy-friendly, use coconut oil instead of butter (dairy-free) and avoid using Pam spray to keep your hands from sticking (soy-free).

First, melt the butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Once melted, add the marshmallows and stir until they have completely melted and combined. Now it’s time to add a fun twist to the classic Rice Krispie treats – crush up some Halloween Oreos!

Take a few Halloween Oreos and place them in a resealable bag. Use a rolling pin or the bottom of a heavy glass to crush them into small pieces. You want a mix of fine crumbs and larger chunks to give your treats a satisfying crunch.

Once the marshmallows have melted, remove the saucepan from the heat and add the Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until all the cereal is evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture. Now, it’s time to add the crushed Halloween Oreos. Gently fold them into the mixture, ensuring they are distributed throughout.

Next, prepare a baking dish by lining it with wax paper or lightly greasing it with butter. Transfer the Rice Krispie mixture to the dish and press it down firmly using a spatula or your hands. Make sure it’s evenly spread out and compacted.

Allow the treats to cool and set for about 30 minutes. While waiting, you can prepare the fun Halloween decorations. A simple way to make them spooky is by using orange food coloring to tint the melted marshmallows before adding the cereal. It will give the Rice Krispie treats a vibrant Halloween appearance.

Once the treats have cooled, it’s time to get creative! You can cut them into spooky shapes using Halloween-themed cookie cutters, or for a quick trick, cut them into squares or rectangles. Add some extra Halloween vibes using decorative sprinkles or edible eyes to bring your treats to life.

Now, stand back and admire your homemade Halloween Rice Krispie treats. These orange-colored, Oreo-filled goodies are sure to impress your guests. The combination of the classic Rice Krispie treat with the added crunch and flavor of Halloween Oreos is simply unbeatable.

So, next time you’re thinking of how to make Rice Krispie treats for Halloween, remember this recipe. It’s easy to follow, allows for creative decorations, and incorporates the irresistible taste of Halloween Oreos. Happy spooky snacking!

To make these Halloween Rice Krispie Treats, you need the not-so-secret ingredient: Halloween Oreos. They taste just like regular Oreos but have an orange creme center that takes these Rice Krispie Treats from really good to festive. I had to go to Target to find them, but I linked them in my Amazon Shop here if you can’t find them locally.

How to Make Halloween Rice Krispy Treats

I do two things a little differently than some other recipes.

  1. Melt the butter and the marshmallows in a medium saucepan over medium heat. The key here is to keep stirring and don’t rush it. You could quickly melt this in the microwave, but for some reason, I think it tastes better this way.
  2. I butter my 9×13 pan instead of spraying it with non-stick spray. I like having the butter taste match up to the butter flavor of the Rice Krispie Treats.

These Halloween Rice Krispie Treats are super easy and quick to make. Butter your pan and put your Oreos in a gallon zip lock bag. Using a mallet, rolling pin, or wine bottle, mash the Oreos. I left mine a little bigger to see the black and orange pieces clearly in the treats.

Combine the Oreos with the Rice Krispies, melt the butter and marshmallows, then combine. It’s really that simple.

Here is the secret to not getting entirely frustrated when mixing and placing the combined Rice Krispy Treats into the pan – keep your fingers greased up with butter, or cover the top with parchment paper and press it down with that on top.

I cut these into squares but you could use festive cookie cutters or put them on sticks like they do at The Yard House. This will be the perfect dessert to go with our traditional Halloween dinner of Vollmer Chili.

I love that when you combine the marshmallow mixture into the Rice Krispies – they literally snap, crackle and pop and I immediately become an 8-year-old girl. There is something so nostalgic about that sound for me.
